ABOUT THE LORDSBURG HIDALGO LIBRARY

Located in Hidalgo County in southern New Mexico, the Lordsburg Hidalgo Public Library is a great place to visit. Built in 1936 as a WPA project, this historic adobe building is full of architechtural character, good books, friendly people and up to date information.
When you pass through these vintage, custom doors, be sure to look up at our high viga ceiling construction and wrought iron light fixture.  Notice our stained glass windows, thick adobe walls and the art hanging on our walls.  Our facility is a special place and we are happy to welcome you to the library.

Our Library:
80
Years
Built By the WPA,
the Lordsburg Hidalgo Library facility was built by the WPA, or Works Progress Administration 80 years ago.  Finished in 1937, it has housed the library ever since.

We are proud of our facility and collections and invite you to come spend some time here.

One collection that may be of interest to visitors is housed in our Southwestern Book room.  With over 2,000 books of southwestern history, including local authors, histories and biographies, we can help find information on nearly any subject that relates to local families, events or periods of time.  Our historian, Rosie Marquez, is on duty every morning to help you find what you need.

Our children's librarian, Rita Morris is knowledgable about the books in her section and stands ready to help our young patrons find a book, game or movie every afternoon from 1:00 to 6:00.  Be sure to ask her about books about animals, her favorites.  We are stocked to entertain, educate and inform our community's youth and love to have them visit our library.

Julia Ramirez is our circulation librarian.  She is a great resource to help our patrons find what they are looking for, whether it is reference material, fiction or how-to books, Julia will help you find it.  You can find her by looking for the librarian with the biggest smile- Julia is a cheerful and friendly asset to our library staff.

Whatever your information needs may be, come to the Lordsburg Hidalgo Library.  We will be happy to see you.

Throughout the library you will find art, historic books, local histories, current magazines, movies on dvd, public use computers, free WiFi, copy and fax capabilities and of course great books to read.

If we don't have the books you are looking for, speak up, we will get what you need, whether through interlibrary loan, electronic books or ordering, we can usually find it.

Don't know what to read?  Our staff knows the collection and can direct you to a good read in your favorite genre.
